Heimplatz</a></figcaption></figure></div><p><span>Whether it&#8217;s your career, finances, health, or relationships, the outcomes of your life are ultimately a measure of the habits you&#8217;ve built over time.</span></p><h4><strong><span>The Premise</span></strong></h4><p>In <em>Atomic Habits</em>, James Clear explores how automatic patterns silently shape your daily existence. The brain naturally builds habits as mental shortcuts to solve recurring problems, requiring less effort as you repeat the routine. However, when life presents familiar challenges, your mind defaults to these automatic paths even if they're now damaging to your life.</p><p>Clear argues that meaningful, long-term transformation doesn&#8217;t come from heroic willpower or ambitious goals, which only offer temporary fixes. It&#8217;s like tidying a very messy room without changing the habits that created it, the size of the mess will inevitably return. Instead, real change comes from making small adjustments to your daily habits to reduce the scale of the mess. Over time, your brain automates these changes and overrides old patterns that created the big mess in the first place.</p><p><span>What's most powerful in habit change is understanding the symbiotic relationship between your habits and your identity. Understanding this enables you to grasp the power of environmental design rather than motivation in advancing change. Making habits obvious, attractive, and easy allows you to build sustainable routines that deliver compounding, long-term results.</span></p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png" width="1456" height="73" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:73,&quot;width&quot;:1456,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:null,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:null,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:null,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h4><strong><span>My Personal Take</span></strong></h4><p><span>What makes this book so compelling is how relatable and actionable its core insights are.</span></p><p><em><span>Systems Over Goals</span></em></p><p><span>The insight on systems versus goals was eye-opening. The messy room example illustrates a truth we all experience: cleaning a room achieves a goal for a single moment, but without altering the underlying system, you remain trapped in an exhausting cycle that requires increasing bursts of motivation to complete. By creating a system that reduces daily clutter, you diminish the effort required to maintain cleanliness.</span></p><p><em><span>Identity Driven Change</span></em></p><p><span>The distinction between telling someone, &#8220;No thanks, I&#8217;m trying to quit,&#8221; versus &#8220;No thanks, I&#8217;m not a smoker,&#8221; may seem small, but it&#8217;s a profound shift. This subtle reframing reflects an evolution in the underlying beliefs that define your identity. Sustained change occurs when your habits align with who you believe you are. In other words, your identity.</span></p><p><em><span>The Power of Environment</span></em></p><p><span>Clear&#8217;s breakdown of how our surroundings quietly dictate our behaviour, such as instinctively whispering in a place of worship even when no service is taking place, is fascinating. The historical example of returning Vietnam War veterans shedding addictions overnight simply through a change of environment highlights the immense pull our surroundings exert over our actions.</span></p><p><em><span>Practical Friction Reduction</span></em></p><p><span>Instead of expecting yourself to leap instantly from baseline to peak performance, lower the barrier by taking smaller steps to achieving your ultimate goal. Scaling down habits into stages, such as unrolling a yoga mat or reading a single page before bed, removes the amount effort needed to eventually reach your goal. As that friction diminishes, taking the next step becomes natural, until what once seemed daunting becomes second nature.</span></p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><p><span>If you&#8217;re interested in reading this book, I recommend purchasing it at my </span><a href="https://www.booksellers.ca/books/atomic-habits-james-clear-9780735211292.html?a=2423">Canada</a><span>, </span><a href="https://bookshop.org/lists/superhuman">US</a><span>, or </span><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/superhuman?&amp;new-list-page=true&amp;bkshp-astro=t">UK</a><span> bookshops. It never experiences the world firsthand. Instead, it does its best to interpret millions of chaotic data points, offering you nothing more than its best guess of your life experience.&#8221;</span></p><h4><strong><span>The Premise</span></strong></h4><p><span>In </span><em><span>How Emotions Are Made</span></em><span>, Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett uses emotions as a vessel to reveal a far larger truth: how each human brain actively constructs its own unique version of reality. As we navigate life, we build a mental catalog of concepts that directly shape how we experience the world.</span></p><p><span>Consider the emotion words you know. If you are aware of the concept of anger but lack a granular understanding of anxiety, your brain may misinterpret your physiological distress, leading you to react with anger when you&#8217;re simply overwhelmed. A limited emotional vocabulary leaves your brain with fewer tools to interpret experience, producing outcomes you never intended.</span></p><p><span>Barrett also challenges the classic assumption that we experience something, consciously consider it, and then choose our response. Instead, she presents the brain as a dynamic simulation machine. Drawing from internal organ feedback, external sensors, and a filing system of past experiences, the brain constantly predicts what will happen next. Your response is more often the outcome of that prediction.</span></p><p><span>By demonstrating that the mind and body share a unified energy budget, one easily depleted by something as simple as a stressful boss walking past, she explores how our internal models dictate our physical health, our daily perceptions, and the cognitive blueprints we pass down to future generations.</span></p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png" width="1456" height="113" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:113,&quot;width&quot;:1456,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:130693,&quot;alt&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/i/197165675?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" title="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h4><strong><span>My Personal Take</span></strong></h4><p><span>What makes this book captivating is how it completely reshaped my understanding of human behaviour. Instead of consciously choosing every response, I now realize I&#8217;m frequently reacting through my brain&#8217;s predictive engine based on past experiences. That insight helped me make sense of my own history, especially those moments where I wish I had responded differently.</span></p><p><span>The concept of the body budget is particularly striking. We all recognize that sleep, diet, and exercise influence our stamina, but I wasn&#8217;t aware that simply anticipating a difficult conversation with an unpredictable boss could trigger a genuine physiological drain on our daily energy allowance.</span></p><p><span>Equally fascinating is how easily we misinterpret internal bodily signals as objective truths about the world, leading to real-world consequences like judges giving harsher parole rulings right before lunch, or job candidates receiving poorer reviews on rainy days.</span></p><p><span>Ultimately, the book elevates neuroscience into something deeply personal. Recognizing that our brain&#8217;s microwiring is built on learned shortcuts reveals how exploring the stories of our parents and grandparents can offer clarity on our own automatic blueprints, blueprints that may no longer serve us, yet remain active within us.</span></p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><p><span>If you&#8217;re interested in reading this book, I recommend purchasing it at my </span><a href="https://www.booksellers.ca/books/how-emotions-are-made-9781328915436.html?a=2423">Canada</a><span>, </span><a href="https://bookshop.org/lists/superhuman">US</a><span>, or </span><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/superhuman?&amp;new-list-page=true&amp;bkshp-astro=t">UK</a><span> bookshops. seen as a masterclass in human connection and emotional architecture. The book operates on a transformative premise: what we typically label as &#8220;bad behaviour,&#8221; whether from a child, a friend, or a spouse, is merely the outward symptom of a deeper, unmet internal need.</p><p><span>As children, our survival depends completely on how we attach to our caregivers. Kennedy explains how these earliest experiences create the automated settings that shape our future behaviour. While we are not responsible for the intergenerational patterns we inherit, awareness gives us the path to breaking them.</span></p><p><span>Rather than offering superficial communication hacks, the book provides a psychological roadmap for dismantling these inherited scripts, emphasizing the importance of holding multiple realities during conflict and using boundaries to protect relationships rather than control them.</span></p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png" width="1456" height="113" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:113,&quot;width&quot;:1456,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:130693,&quot;alt&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/i/197165675?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" title="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4-yH!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F61afea1f-8c2e-4c03-9b77-492702327315_1468x114.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h4><strong><span>My Personal Take</span></strong></h4><p><span>For me, </span><em><span>Good Inside</span></em><span> was not simply a guide to parenting; it became my operational manual for every meaningful relationship in my life. What I loved most about this framework is how it replaces blame with biological and psychological curiosity. In the heat of a disagreement, it&#8217;s so incredibly easy to assume the worst of another person. This book gave me the tools to separate a person&#8217;s immediate, defensive behaviour from their core identity.</span></p><p><span>I found the exploration of shame to be particularly relatable and eye-opening, specifically recognizing that when a partner exhibits coldness, a lack of empathy, or emotional numbness, they aren&#8217;t necessarily attacking me, but could be retreating into their fortress of shame. That insight changed how I navigate certain aspects of conflict. It taught me that when a relationship truly matters, prioritizing safety and reminding the other person of their inherent goodness is essential to restoring connection.</span></p><p><span>Furthermore, the book&#8217;s redefinition of boundaries was powerful. Instead of viewing a boundary as a way to dictate what someone else can do, I now understand it as a deeply loving action to protect the relationship (e.g., &#8220;We&#8217;re getting flooded. I&#8217;m going to pause this conversation because I don&#8217;t want to harm our relationship.&#8221;). Ultimately, this book taught me that to experience genuine joy, we cannot bypass what&#8217;s uncomfortable. It empowered me to sit with discomfort, expand my emotional resilience, and intentionally shape my inner world.</span></p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><p><span>If you&#8217;re interested in reading this book, I recommend purchasing it at my </span><a href="https://www.booksellers.ca/books/good-inside-dr-becky-kennedy-9780063159488.html?a=2423">Canada</a><span>, </span><a href="https://bookshop.org/lists/superhuman">US</a><span>, or </span><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/superhuman?&amp;new-list-page=true&amp;bkshp-astro=t">UK</a><span> bookshops. children, our brains draft the neural blueprints we carry into adulthood. The catch? These blueprints become so automatic that we engage with them as if they&#8217;re the only version of reality.</span></p><p><span>There&#8217;s only one reality, right?</span></p><p><span>What I learned from Nicole Vignola&#8217;s </span><em><span>Rewire</span></em><span> is that nothing could be further from the truth, and realizing that was immensely empowering.</span></p><h4><span>The Premise</span></h4><p>From the moment you enter the world, your brain and body are actively consuming your slice of reality. Whether it&#8217;s your daily thoughts, the media you watch, or the people you spend time with, your internal architecture is constantly taking shape. You don't need to consciously decide to accept a piece of information for your brain to use it to shape your world. The more you repeat these experiences, the more they become who you are.</p><p>Think of every repeated thought as paving a dirt road. Your brain doesn&#8217;t care whether the thought is accurate or helpful, it just paves. Repeat it enough, and that dirt path turns into a high-speed autobahn, ensuring your brain defaults to it long before considering less paved alternatives.</p><p>The problem arises when you realize parts of the self that have been built doesn't serve you or, in the worst cases, are actively destructive to your life. This is because your brain prioritizes efficiency over accuracy, so it will always choose the road most traveled over the one that makes you happier or healthier.</p><p>This is where Nicole steps in. She offers actionable, science-backed strategies to help adults prune destructive patterns, optimize their biology, and pave new neural pathways aligned with the person they want to be and the life they actually want to live.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png" width="1456" height="73" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:73,&quot;width&quot;:1456,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:217717,&quot;alt&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/i/195565586?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" title="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4dNc!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4cb61f90-503a-48f7-9dd4-3c8d271d6417_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h4><strong><span>My Personal Take</span></strong></h4><p><span>While Nicole&#8217;s strategies for building new neural pathways are powerful, what I found most compelling was how she demystified the brain&#8217;s internal architecture. Only after understanding how my mind is constructed did the purpose of her tools truly make sense.</span></p><p>This book fundamentally changed how I view my internal dialogue: the thoughts I repeat literally <strong>become</strong> my reality, regardless of whether they are accurate, empowering, or destructive. It&#8217;s forced me to be far more conscious of my self-talk and how I interpret the behaviour of others.</p><p>I was also struck by how quickly my brain defaults to autopilot when I fail to provide the environment it needs to thrive. Without the right conditions, I lose the awareness required to catch my destructive loops, mistaking them for "just the way life is" rather than recognizing the pain they have brought me. Learning how to pave new, healthier roads has become an essential daily practice.</p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><p>If you&#8217;re interested in reading this book, I recommend purchasing it at my <a href="https://www.booksellers.ca/books/rewire-break-the-cycle-alter-your-thoughts-and-create-lasting-change-your-neurotoolkit-for-everyday-life-9780063349810?a=2423">Canada</a>, <a href="https://bookshop.org/lists/superhuman">US</a>, or <a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/superhuman?&amp;new-list-page=true&amp;bkshp-astro=t">UK</a> bookshops. who remain passive in life risk being reshaped by external currents. Only to wake up in a life they don&#8217;t recognize, at a destination they didn&#8217;t choose."</p><h4>The Premise</h4><p><span>In </span><em><span>Theory U: A Step-by-Step Guide to Personal and Organizational Transformation</span></em><span>, Otto Scharmer provides a roadmap for navigating disruption by addressing the one variable we truly control: how we choose to respond.</span></p><p><span>Rather than allowing our lives to only be dictated by external circumstances, Scharmer outlines a transformative seven-stage journey toward intentionally designing your future:</span></p><ul><li><p><span>Downloading: exploring automatic behaviors and past patterns</span></p></li><li><p><span>Seeing: separating identity from objective observation</span></p></li><li><p><span>Sensing: observing ourselves from the outside looking in</span></p></li><li><p><span>Presencing: connecting with our highest future potential</span></p></li><li><p><span>Crystallizing: defining a clear vision of who we want to become</span></p></li><li><p><span>Prototyping: testing and refining that vision through small-scale actions</span></p></li><li><p><span>Performing: embodying our new self in the world</span></p></li></ul><p><span>The book&#8217;s core thesis is simple: the quality of our external life outcomes depends entirely on the quality of our &#8220;inner place.&#8221; By cultivating sustained attention and shedding outdated identities, we cease to be prisoners of a fast-moving world and become active co-creators of a flourishing future.</span></p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" By taking neuroscience out of the lab and making it accessible for everyone, Nicole demystifies neuroplasticity, proving that the adult brain is capable of being reprogrammed by your own design. Let that sink in. In this deep-dive breakdown of Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett&#8217;s groundbreaking book <em>How Emotions Are Made</em>, we pull back the curtain on your "vault of bone" to reveal that your brain is actually a silent simulation machine, constantly placing biological bets on reality using your past experiences and your internal "body budget." From why hungry judges deny parole to how a limited vocabulary secretly drains your physical energy, this book explores how our brains construct every emotion, memory, and reaction we have. Read on to discover how your internal blueprints shape your daily reality, and more importantly, how you can choose which models you pass down to the next generation.</p><p><em><strong>Publish date: July 17, 2026</strong></em></p><p>Click <a href="https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/p/how-your-brain-constructs-reality">here</a> to read.</p><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><em>Have you come across a book we&#8217;d be interested in? Newhouse</a></figcaption></figure></div><p>Charles Darwin died haunted by his theory of evolution. While he had mapped the <em>&#8216;why&#8217;</em> of evolution, he was missing the <em>&#8216;how&#8217;; </em>the biological blueprint of inheritance. It remained an agonizing mystery.</p><p>The tragedy of this story is that 17 years before his passing, and only 1,000 kilometers from his home, a monk named Gregor Mendel had figured out the <em>&#8216;how&#8217;</em>. Unfortunately Mendel&#8217;s work sat on a bookshelf gathering dust until it was discovered in 1900, 35 years after is was originally presented. The discovery changed the field of genetics forever, saving countless lives.</p><p>What&#8217;s terrifying about this to me is the silent power of the unread page. Darwin&#8217;s struggle illustrates that we don&#8217;t just suffer from what we don&#8217;t know, we also suffer from what we <em>haven&#8217;t found, yet.</em> I learned this lesson firsthand when a book on trauma made me realize the way I thought I experience life was fundamentally wrong.</p><p>I've grown to understand that the factors which determine how we experience life is the linchpin to better harnessing our transformative technological change to create a far brighter future. Since then, I&#8217;ve become a voracious reader: hunting for more &#8220;Mendel papers&#8221; to find more insights to empower more of us to build a future where we're thriving rather than just surviving.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png" width="1456" height="73" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:73,&quot;width&quot;:1456,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:217717,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/i/195531775?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!lC6Z!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F54719ae4-f00a-4e84-9e7b-f2f56c2fac29_2928x146.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h3><strong>The Roots of Superhuman</strong></h3><p>I believe that democratizing access to the science of our biological &#8216;operating system&#8217;, supported by our technological advancements, will unlock our collective potential to design a future where our homes, workplaces, and entire neighbourhoods are optimized for our wellbeing.</p><div class="callout-block" data-callout="true"><p><em>I'm not a therapist.</em><strong> </strong>I'm a researcher. Building a thriving future, especially within ourselves, is challenging and I encourage readers to make therapy a part of their wellness routine.</p></div><h1>The Superhuman Library</h1><h3><strong>How to use the library</strong></h3><p>While my collection of books does not include all of my research, I'm curating a collection of some of the most impactful pieces. I&#8217;ve organized the library to respect your time while rewarding your curiosity.</p><h4><strong>Series 1: How you become who you are</strong></h4><p>Think of neurobiology as your invisible operating system, functioning every millisecond of your existence. It shapes who you fall in love with, makes late night scrolling irresistible, and determines how well you bounce back from a setback. When you understand your neurobiology and develop it with intention; how you interact with yourself and the world will never be the same.</p><blockquote><p>Learn more about the research we&#8217;ve collected on: <a href="https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/p/neurobiology-is-life-your-brain-and">How you become who you are</a>.</p></blockquote><h4><strong>Series 2: Relationships are our Rocket Fuel</strong></h4><p>The the longest study on happiness makes it abundantly clear: the quality of our relationships is the single greatest predictor of a long, healthy and happy life. These bonds do more than provide comfort, they determine how well we&#8217;re able to navigate life&#8217;s inevitable storms and what we&#8217;re ultimately able accomplish. Most importantly, they&#8217;re also our most significant catalyst for change.</p><p>However, building these connections isn&#8217;t always intuitive and we can see that through the growth of loneliness and rising polarization in the world. Understanding our biological &#8220;hardwiring&#8221; will allow you to navigate the complexities of human interaction with more grace, turning simple acquaintances into the kind of deep, transformative connections that nourish us.</p><blockquote><p>Learn more about the research we&#8217;ve collected on: <a href="https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/p/the-science-of-longevity-what-the?r=2407vs">Relationships are our Rocket Fuel</a>.</p></blockquote><h4><strong>Series 3: The Mechanics of Performance</strong></h4><p>In the modern world, the demand on our attention is relentless: partners, children, friends, career, exercise, world news, chores, hobbies, nutrition, entertainment, and the constant hum of our phones. When we try to accommodate every demand, we scatter our energy and fail to show up for what really matters to us.</p><p>Neurobiology teaches us a vital lesson: our energy is a limited resource. While we operate like &#8220;unlimited&#8221; data plans, it&#8217;s not sustainable. We can perform at 100%, but our when our bandwidth begins to shrink, we get annoyed faster, become short tempered, our ideas are not as sharp and we&#8217;re more prone to making bad decisions.</p><p>This is why attention and intention are biological necessities. By acknowledging our limits and focusing our energy on what really matters, we can lead more fulfilling lives rather than one of survival.</p><blockquote><p>Learn more about the research we&#8217;ve collected on: <a href="https://remarkablefuture.substack.com/p/intention-is-a-biological-necessity">The Mechanics of Performance</a></p></blockquote><p style="text-align: center;"><em>Have you come across a book we&#8217;d be interested in?
